Reese Witherspoon will produce and star in the film adaptation of the Jen Sacks novel Nice, according to Jo Blo.
In the dark comedy, Reese, 31, will play a 30-year-old New York magazine editor named Grace.
Here’s the book description from Amazon: “Grace is nice to a fault. She never picks fights, and doesn’t like to criticize or hurt people’s feelings. Problem is, the men in her life never seem to take a hint. And she just can’t bear to tell them outright when she isn’t interested. So she kills them. A clean break–no messy emotions, no heated arguments. But someone is onto her. His name is Sam, and he and Grace, with one very dangerous thing in common, make a killer couple. She’s the mother of Britney Spears, who is currently under a 72-hour mental lockdown at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. And who can forget 16-year-old Jamie Lynn, who is pregnant with her first child.
“Everyone has been worried for some time,” says one source to People. “[Brit’s] world has been crumbling around her and this is another call for help. Her parents are just devastated. Nobody knows if they can take much more, but they’re trying to be as strong as they can.”
Earlier today, Lynne was “extremely distraught” on the phone with Access Hollywood, and said, “Just say prayers.”

The entire Pitt family enjoyed a reunion together on Wednesday, feasting together at Arris’ Pizza on Republic Road in Springfield, Missouri (Brad’s hometown).
The group included Brad’s parents, Jane and Bill, their adult children, Doug Pitt and Julie Neal, and 11 grandchildren. YES, ELEVEN!
Brian Keppy, Arris’ kitchen manager, said other patrons didn’t interfere–no one took photos or asked for autographs.
Doug Pitt’s wife, Lisa, said the family enjoyed being able to go out together and that it’s typical when Brad and Angelina visit Springfield.
“We went to the movies last year when they came and people were just so cool,” she said. “Even when we go shopping, I think everybody here is so used to the family.”

Paris Hilton wore pink Pastelle shutter shades in Las Vegas for New Year’s earlier this week. The hotel heiress hosted an evening at PURE nightclub with her younger sister Nicky.
Kayne West rocked out the classic white Pastelle sunglasses backstage during a special Video Music Awards nominee taping of TRL back in August in NYC. Pastelle is a clothing label founded by Kanye himself. No official word on a release date of the fashion line yet.

Lost star Matthew Fox dishes the dirt on the upcoming four season of this hit ABC show in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly (on newsstands Monday).
On the 8th episode of Lost this season: “There’s going to be some huge mind-blowing (stuff). Jack gets people off that island, [and] suddenly he and the other people are very well known— it becomes this massive story because everybody thought that every person on this plane was lost…. Who are they? What is everybody else doing? Jack’s mission was to get all of them off. It’s the overriding force behind him. So, the fact that he ends up getting off and doesn’t get that accomplished—I’m very curious to find out how that all goes down…. If I start giving you words about what I think it’s really about, I’m going to be honing in on some stuff that I’m not sure I’m authorized to talk about. A truck might pull up and a bunch of dudes in suits get out and mow us down with Uzis.”
On this season dealing with time travel and other supernatural elements: Really fascinating stuff. Last year, we find out Jack and Kate are off the island. How the f— did that happen? And why does he want to go back? In answering those questions, you have to start addressing the bigger, epic scope of the show. In doing that, you’re going to get into questions about the show that the audience is just dying to start finding out. What is this island? Where is this island? When is this island?

Lindsay Lohan’s lawyer says the rehabbed actress is “back on track” after she slipped and drank alcohol during a New Year’s Eve party in Italy. Attorney Blair Berk said Lohan called her sponsor immediately after the incident.
Russell Crowe is waging a campaign against the 20,000 poker consoles found in Australian pubs, saying they’re corrupting his countrymen. He’s printed T-shirts, started a Facebook group and even persuaded the board of his Sydney rugby club to yank them from local bars.
7.2 million viewers tuned in for Jay Leno’s return to air Wednesday, almost 2 million more than who tuned in to see David Letterman. Leno is in trouble with The Writers Guild of America for penning his own monologues. The guild claims the Tonight Show host is violating union rules.

The 30-year-old actress is featured in January’s ensemble indie The Air I Breathe, the second of three Gellar films coming out in quick succession (last year’s Southland Tales and this month’s Possession are the others). The February 2008 issue of Radar has a great interview with her, so here are some of the highlights:
On her BFF Manolo Blahnik: “One day, a couple friends and I went into Bergdorf just to get out of the rain. A man who works there, who I know, he said, “Mr. Blahnik is here signing autographs and doing sketches.You have to come meet him. And there was this big line of women, and I thought, This is going to be so embarrassing, he’s going to have absolutely no idea who I am! So I’m waiting for this blank look from him, and he’s like [imitating his Spanish accent], “It’s Sarah Michelle! I love the Buffy !” He was so lovely. He sketched a shoe and signed it, and it actually hangs in my closet.”
On being a child star: “As a kid, performing was my passion, but it wasn’t at the forefront of my life. I wasn’t a child star, I was a working child actor. So I got more from seeing other actors who had missed their childhoods.”
On portraying a porn star: “With Southland Tales, playing a porn star, being in an ensemble cast, all those things were experiences, obviously, that I’d never had. Coming out in the wardrobe alone some days was enough of a challenge—just getting out of my trailer.”
On her superficial dreams: “My dreams are just so on the surface that, literally, there’s nothing to actually read into.”
